Only H4 classification CCA treated Seligna poles are used. This is the difference between a pole that will rot or not!

In general, rafter diameters are a minimum of 75mm to 100mm up to a rafter length of 4.8m. Longer than 4.8m, rafters will have a minimum diameter of 100mm to 125mm. All upright support poles will have a minimum diameter of 125mm to 150mm. Please note that for wider spanning structures, the timber diameters will be adapted as per SANS 10407:2006

The primary purpose of fire retardant treatment for thatch is to mitigate the risk of fire-related damage to thatched roofs. Thatch is a natural material and, while it has many aesthetic and insulating benefits, it can be susceptible to fire. Fire retardant treatment aims to make the thatch less flammable and slow down the combustion process.

On top of the ceiling layer the rest of the thatch layer will be thatch grass as specified above. The standard thickness of the total thatch layer will be 175-200mm unless another thickness is requested in writing. The standard compaction will be between 45kg per square meter thatch. Only winter harvested grass is allowed and Ginindza Thatching prides itself in always having winter harvested grass in stock

“Over-thatching” refers to the adding of a layer of grass on top of the existing grass. Over-thatching is done to a 100mm to 125mm thickness, at a compaction of 20kg to 25kg per square thatch meter. Re-thatching” refers to the total removal of all existing grass and thatching new grass onto the frame

Brushing or combing of a thatch roof refers to the process of maintaining and caring for the thatch by using specialized tools to remove debris, compacted thatch, and other materials that might accumulate over time. This maintenance technique is crucial for the health and longevity of the thatch
